Lorde Had a Secret Account Where She Exclusively Reviewed Onion Rings
A few eagle-eyed Lorde fans began noticing a very specific pattern. In 2017, a small Instagram account was popping up in the feeds of Lorde’s followers. It contained a collection of close-up photos of fried food. The handle was @onionringsworldwide, and for a short while, it was quite mysterious.
The account didn’t have many followers at first, but the reviews were surprisingly thorough. Each post featured a photo of onion rings from a different restaurant, accompanied by a short, thoughtful critique. The reviewer assessed the batter’s structural integrity and the onion’s sweetness. It was clear that whoever was running the page actually cared about the craft.
The Account That Took Onion Rings Seriously
The reviews on @onionringsworldwide were written with a level of detail you don’t usually see on a casual food blog. The author would comment on whether a ring has a “nice crunch” or a “full distinct shape,” and on how heavy or dry it is.

The mystery didn’t last forever. Fans started noticing that the locations of the onion rings lined up perfectly with Lorde’s tour dates. When she was in New York, the account posted a review from a New York diner. When she traveled to Tennessee, a review from a local spot there appeared.
The secret was finally outed during a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Lorde admitted, with a bit of a laugh, that it was indeed her. She explained that she didn’t realize it would become a “thing” and that she just enjoyed eating onion rings on tour. Once the connection was made public, the account was quickly deactivated.
Why It Stuck With People
We often see celebrities through a highly polished lens, but the idea of Lorde sitting in a random airport lounge booth, meticulously photographing a side dish, made her feel human.
It also highlighted a different side of her personality. She’s known for her introspective and sometimes heavy songwriting, and the onion ring saga showed she had a sense of humor about herself.
