Shrek — everyone’s favorite, lovable ogre — became a household name in 2001 when the first movie was released by DreamWorks. Played by Mike Myers, Shrek was the antithesis of a fairytale prince charming, but that’s why we love him, right?
He was such a hit that three sequels and the “Puss in Boots” spinoff prequel film were also made, not to mention several video games, television specials and even a musical to round out the Shrek franchise. A fifth Shrek movie has been in and out of development since 2016, but no official plans have been made for its release.
In the meantime, we’ll have to stick to the classics. With comedic actors Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow making up the cast, the hilarious writing makes it easy to watch the Shrek movies again and again. It’s also excellent fodder for some seriously funny Shrek memes. Read on to see what we mean.
