30 Best Cracker Brands of All Time, Ranked

Goldfish / thehealthymouse / Facebook

What is a cracker, really? According to some sources, the food came about in Massachusetts in the late-18th century thanks to one early-American entrepreneur named John Pearson, who used flour and water to fashion a new type of hard bread. It was eponymously known then as “Pearson’s Pilot Bread,” which would look absolutely absurd on a box at the grocery store.

Thus, “cracker” became a catch-all term for a small piece of baked bread product similar to Pearson’s. Elsewhere in the world (the U.K., for example), crackers are known as biscuits, and because they maintained their quality on long-haul voyages, sailors even referred to them as “sea biscuits” — long before the famous horse.

However we refer to them, crackers can be enjoyed in hundreds of different ways, depending on your own palate and preference. You can top them with cheese, vegetables, fruit or dip them in soup. Heck, they’re so good, you can eat them without any “help” at all. Here are the 30 best cracker brands that we’ve seen families eat time and time again. What’s in your pantry?

30. Farmhouse Cheddar Almond Flour Crackers

Made by: Simple Mills

Simple Mills has gotten in on the gluten-free game in recent years, touting that its Farmhouse Cheddar Almond Flour Crackers are also a fine source of Vitamin E and protein. The crackers are made from sunflower seeds, almond flour and flax seeds, too, in case you were wondering.

But if you want to get your hands on some of these crunchy crackers, you’ll have to wait, as the good folks at Simple Mills say that the supply chain has led to a Farmhouse Cheddar backlog.

29. Premium Saltines

Saltines are another name for “soda cracker,” and they come under a variety of banners, but none perhaps as well known as Nabisco’s. Nabisco’s saltines are often found on the border of a delicious cheese plate, and they go especially well with peanut butter and other spreads.

Heck, you can (and should!) even dunk them into some clam chowder.

28. Sea Salt Mediterranean Crackers

We’re so used to crackers appearing as squares or circles that we often forget their dimensions can encompass many other shapes, such as these. Firehook’s Sea Salt Mediterranean Crackers are made with the company’s patented formula of honey, wheat flour and olive oil.

Oh, and sea salt, of course! Enjoy cutting up cheese to fit their unique length.

27. Unsalted Matzo

Who says you can only enjoy matzo chips during Passover? Streit’s Unsalted Matzo crackers are actually rather healthy, all things considered, and thus should be tasted the entire year through.

Plus, they’re awesome with peanut butter. And, yes, in case you’re wondering, they are in fact kosher.
